This gene is one of numerous cytochrome P450 genes that are present in several clusters throughout the genome, and it is a member of the family 2, subfamily d group of genes. This gene does not contain a functional open reading fame, and it is thus classified as a transcribed pseudogene. However, transcripts with a 1 nt deletion relative to the reference genome sequence have also been described, and these would potentially encode a cytochrome P450 polypeptide.
