Transcript Variant: This variant (2) uses an alternate donor splice site at an internal coding exon compared to variant 1. This results in a frame-shift and an isoform (2, also known as CoAM or coactivator modulator) with a distinct and shorter C-terminus compared to isoform 1. This isoform lacks the TRBP-interacting domain, and functions as a transcriptional repressor by inhibiting the activity of isoform 1 (PMID:11443112).

This gene encodes a ribonucleoprotein that functions as a general nuclear coactivator, and an RNA splicing modulator. This protein contains two RNA recognition motifs (RRM) at the N-terminus, and multiple hexapeptide repeat domain at the C-terminus that interacts with thyroid hormone receptor-binding protein (TRBP), and is required for transcription activation.
